Member Updates & Outside Opportunities

MEMBER UPDATE ~ AAWS member and artist Rebecca Dresser will be having a solo show at the Apple Gallery at the Stokes County Arts Council from September 24 - October 26. Opening reception is Friday, October 1 from 6 - 8:30 pm.

SYNTHESIS at Salem Fine Arts Center, Mary Davis Holt Gallery. Oct 22, 2010 - Jan 28, 2011. This exhibition will feature a variety of works of visual art inspired by poetry, literature, music and dance. The exhibition will coincide with a celebration sponsored by the Salem College School of Music in which we will recognize the 200th birthday celebration of Robert Schuman, an original synthesizer of the arts. On the evening of Fri, Oct 29th, there will be a reception for the artists followed by the School of Music faculty performance of beloved works by Schuman as visual artists and dancers display and perform their creative responses to the music. Installations, two-dimensional and three-dimensional works in all mediums will be considered. Artists 18 and older are invited to send up to five submissions to be considered for exhibition. Submissions must be in the form of jpeg files and may be e-mailed to or a cd of images may be mailed to: Kimberly Varnadoe, Salem Fine Arts Center, 601 S. Church Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Submission Deadline: Oct 4, 2010.

The Lake Norman Art League announces a call to artists for its Annual Fall Exhibition, October 22, 2010 - January 2, 2011. The exhibit will be held at the Carolina Art Garden, in Cornelius, NC. The exhibit is open to all artists working in any 2D or 3D medium, this includes photography, digital or digitally altered photography, and mixed media with photography works.Complete details for entry can be found in the call for entries located on the website, or send a SASE to P.O. The Shepherds Center: Arts & Crafts Bazaar, Nov 6th, 9am-2pm. Seeking 25 vendors to participate. Cost to be a vendor: $25 for a 6ft long table and a door prize donation. Otherwise, vendors keep all of their earnings. The primary purpose of this event is to increase community awareness of The Shepherd's Center's Senior Center. The other purpose is to raise a little bit of money to help fund the Senior Center's programs and cover the costs of ongoing renovations. Contact Susan Meny at or call 336-748-0217

Davidson County Community College, Lexington, NC: Spring Show 2011, (show dates Jan 11 - May 6, 2011). Call for entry is available from Barbara Cullen at Looking for 8-12 artists to show both 2D and 3D work at the Mendenhall Building on the Lexington campus. Deadline: Nov. 15

WFU Baptist Medical Center Rotating Art Shows 2011: 7 galleries. Art is rotated every 3 months... artwork that explores the role of art in healing is particularly encouraged. Both 2D and smaller 3D works are needed. Call for entry available from Barbara Cullen at  Deadline for application: Nov. 15
