Save the Date: Sept 18 Photo Transfer Workshop with Mary Bailey Thomas

When: Saturday, Sept 18, 10am-1pm at AAWS

What: Learn how to transfer imagery from color laser copies to various paper or fabric surfaces using CitraSolv® concentrate. Participates will then re-work the image using their favorite coloring/drawing media to create original (8 x 10 or 5 x 7) works of art.
Presenter Mary Bailey Thomas, AAWS member and artist at Studios 625, has taught this workshop at numerous State & National Art education Conventions, the Sawtooth Center & at AAWS over the past five years. (image at right: "Millenium Center Sculpture 2010" by Mary Bailey Thomas)

Cost: $20 AAWS members/ $25 non-members. RSVP with payment today to reserve your spot!

Materials:

*Mary Bailey Thomas will have copies on hand for those who just want to learn the process and do not bring their own images.

*For those who want to use their own images: Mary Bailey Thomas recommends LePrint Printing on Jonestown Road for the color laser copies. LePrint will print any size up to 11 x 17. If participants want to do the larger size transfer they will need to supply the paper.

(Printing FYI: If there are words, participants need to flip them or invert them so they will not print backwards. They can email a jpg. to LePrint. The laser copy has to be a powder toner copier to work; ink jet prints will not work)

For more information about this workshop, call 722-0340 or email membership (at) associatedartists (dot) org

ABOUT THIS PROJECT
The Art of Homeownership is a collaboration between the Center for Homeownership and Associated Artists of Winston-Salem. For this project, artists will decorate small model houses to be auctioned on September 24th. The decorated houses are intended to highlight the unique perspective of local artists and promote a visual and positive awareness of homeownership in our community. The Art of Homeownership will be introduced as a signature experience during the 5th annual Taste of Homeownership fundraising event on September 24, 2010 at Odd Fellows Club House located at 185 Park Ridge Circle, Winston-Salem, NC 27104

HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Decorate a model house! Blank houses will be available for pick up at Associated Artists after August 16th. Decorated houses are to be turned back in to Associated Artists by September 7th. Decorated houses will then be displayed around the community until the auction on September 24th. Materials are first come, first served.  There is no fee to participate!

CASH PRIZES
The houses will be judged and cash prizes will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners. The houses will be auctioned and sold during the Taste of Homeownership event. As a thank you for participating, each artist will be given a ticket to attend the Taste of Homeownership event.

Outside Opportunities in Our Community

Brenner Children's Hopsital Seeking Donations
Brenners Children's Hospital is dedicated to pediatric patient care, education and research centered on the special needs of children. The Festival of Trees is the largest fundraiser benefitting Brenners each year, with proceeds supporting programs that enhance the lives of our young patients. The highlight of the festival is a large raffle that raises thousands of dollars each year for the children. This year, Brenners is making a special appeal to the members of Associated Artists for donations. Your generosity will be recognized in the festival program and in donor signage. Please contact Cat New with any questions or to request pick up of your donation: (336) 722-2585 x1103 or cnew@intothearts.org  Donations will be accepted through August 27th.

UNCSA: Seeking Donations for Chocolate Festival Fundraiser
UNC School of the Arts is hosting the fifth annual Chocolate Festival fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen foundation on Wednesday, October 20th. Y'Art Sale!

Y'Art Sale

When: Saturday, August 14, 9am - noon

Where: Atrium of Chatham Building (right next door to AAWS)

About: AAWS is planning a fun art supplies sale this summer. Then you can go out and fill them again – guilt free! ;)  Art related paraphernalia (magazines,... books, etc) accepted as well, and maybe a painting or two!

To Donate: You can bring your donations to AAWS during regular gallery hours (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm, Sat, 10am-2pm). Call 336-722-0340 if you have any questions!
